STORY FROM THE FIELD
When Confidence Became Community Leadership
She joined EIF as one of our earliest young community leaders, quiet and unsure of her abilities while navigating restrictive expectations around young women’s roles.
With mentoring, a stipend and growing responsibility, she strengthened her communication skills, mobilised children and families, and began engaging confidently with community leaders, panchayat representatives and government stakeholders.
While continuing college and household responsibilities, she managed an EIF learning centre serving 15 to 20 children regularly, supported girls’ participation in sports, and led learning and digital literacy activities. She also received academic recognition as one of the leading Political Science students in her college.
She later went on to run an education programme with a larger nonprofit and is now preparing for higher studies alongside competitive examinations.
Her journey reflects what can happen when young women are given opportunity, responsibility and space to lead.
